Sleep And Breathing Center Unveiled

Manipal Hospitals Goa unveiled a first of its kind 'Sleep and Breathing Centre' at the hospital premises. The Centre was inaugurated by Transport Minister Ramkrishna alias Sudin Dhavalikar in the presence of Unit Head, Girish Babu Bommakanti, Dr Shekhar Salkar, Chief of Clinical Services & HOD Oncology department and Dr Prabhu Prasad, Consultant Pulmonologist, Manipal Hospitals Goa.


With an aim to provide speedy and efficient care for all forms of sleep disorders, the centre is equipped with doctors and a complete sleep diagnostic suite. The facility will offer comprehensive, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment plan to address particular needs of the patient. Issues like severity of symptoms, patient's lifestyle, associated morbid conditions like COPD, asthma, heart failure will be managed with the help of expert pool of doctors. Patients will be evaluated thoroughly to understand the underlying causes using supportive studies such as pulmonary function testing and chest x-ray, as well as CT scanning of the lungs, if necessary regular follow up, education, and compliance will be strongly emphasized. Additionally there would be special emphasis on treatment of insomnia and CPAP compliance for sleep apnea with cognitive therapy.
